Kazakhstan 50 tenge 2006 - December Events of 1986

In December 1986, mass demonstrations by young ethnic Kazakhs took place in Almaty to protest the methods of the communist system. Soviet troops suppressed the unrest, and dozens of demonstrators were jailed or killed. In the waning days of Soviet rule, discontent continued to grow and find expression under Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev's policy of glasnost. Caught up in the groundswell of Soviet republics seeking greater autonomy, Kazakhstan declared its sovereignty as a republic within the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in October 1990. Following the August 1991 abortive coup attempt in Moscow and the subsequent dissolution of the Soviet Union, Kazakhstan declared independence on December 16, 1991.
On the back side of the coin the monument "Dawn of Freedom", devoted to December Events of 1986 is depicted. This monument was placed in 2006 in the city of Almaty at the corner of Zheltoksan and Satpaiev streets:

Finland 2007 - New national design
The national side of Finland euro coins will be amended so that it will add its abbreviation, FI, on the coins. Also, the first letter of the Mint of Finland's President and CEO (M for Raimo Makkonen) will be replaced with the Mint's logo.

Euros 2007 - New common designs
The designs of euro coins will change slightly in 2007. Based on the decision taken by the Ecofin Council in June 2005, coins minted from the beginning of 2007 will have new common and national sides.
Amendments to the common sides concern the maps presented on the coins. The map on the current 1 and 2 euro coins illustrates the European Union as one entity, whereas the map on the current 10, 20 and 50 cent coins illustrates the EU as a group of separate states. However, these maps only comprise the 15 old EU Member States. After the introduction of the euro the EU enlarged by 10 new countries in 2004, and a further two countries, Romania and Bulgaria, will join at the beginning of 2007. The maps on the coins will be amended to cover the whole of Europe.
Amendments to the common sides will affect the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins as well as the 1 and 2 euro coins. By contrast, the common sides of the 1, 2 and 5 cent coins are not affected. The map on these coins shows Europe in relation to Africa and Asia on a globe.

USA 2007 - Presidential dollars
The United States Mint is honoring the USA Presidents by issuing $1 circulating coins featuring their images in the order that they served. It will mint and issue four Presidential $1 coins per year, and each will have a reverse design featuring a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty. These coins will feature larger, more dramatic artwork, as well as edge-incused inscriptions of the year of minting or issuance, "E Pluribus Unum", "In God We Trust" and the mint mark.
1st president: George Washington (1789-1797)
Following the ratification of the Constitution of the United States, the Electoral College unanimously elected George Washington, former General and Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, to serve as the USA first President.
2nd president: John Adams (1797-1801)
Born in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1735, John Adams was one of the earliest and most vocal advocates for colonial independence. Elected by a margin of just three electoral votes (71-68), John Adams was the first President to live in the White House.
3rd president: Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809)
He drafted the Declaration of Independence at the age of 33, and later succeeded Benjamin Franklin as America's foreign minister to France. During his first term as President, he virtually doubled the size of the United States when his Administration successfully completed the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 and commissioned the Lewis & Clark Expedition to explore the new territory.
4th president: James Madison (1809-1817)
A student of both history and law, he attended the College of New Jersey, returning to his native Virginia to help craft that state's Constitution, as well as serving as a leader in the Virginia Assembly. With Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, Madison wrote The Federalist Papers, a series of 85 essays that advocated the adoption of the United States Constitution.
